Wood-Loving Mushrooms!
As a local producer of hardwood furniture, we are always looking for eco-responsible ways to recycle our waste. When Blanc de Gris approached us for our saw dust it was an easy decision.
Through the sustainability department at PME Montreal, Kastella and Blanc de Gris, an urban mushroom farm located in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, formed a unique, eco-friendly partnership.
Blanc de Gris, founded by Dominique Lynch-Gauthier and Lysiane Roy, distinguishes itself by growing gourmet mushrooms in organic residues, such as spent grain (residual grain from beer production) and more recently, sawdust. Yes, wood-loving mushrooms that grow on decomposing logs and stumps also grow in sawdust. But not just any sawdust, hardwood sawdust.
We’re proud to have partnered with such an innovative company and are currently donating upwards of 250lbs of sawdust per week to their gourmet mushroom farm.*
